This blog and newsletter brings to you substantiated reflections on the subject of political economy with a critical stance. The title of Looking Glass is a homage to the work of Lewis Carroll (1832 – 1898). The association is chosen deliberately to draw attention to processes of misrecognition as a specific form symbolic violence that help to constitute and reproduce forms of domination in everyday interactions, social practices, institutional processes and dispositions. The credo is hence to revitalise agency and to give voice to those topics rendered invisible.

About the Author
Alexander Barta, (*1988), is a trained #firstgen Social Scientist by heart and Risk Consultant at a credit institution by trade. He has completed study programmes in Sociology and Politics at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), in Economics & Political Science at the University of Macedonia (PAMAK) and the University of Bamberg (Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg) as well as in Business and Economic Law at the Martin-Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg (MLU). Short research stints at UWS, the European Forum for Migration Studies (efms) and the Marie Jahoda - Otto Bauer Institut (JBI) gave valuable experience, insights and orientation for which he is grateful.
About the Blog
The aim of the blog and newsletter Looking Glass is to publish posts reflecting on the wider political economy on a regular basis without any restrictive paywall. Knowledge about the complexities of the world should be readily accessible and freely available as was the provision of education to the author himself. Early writing attempts can be witnessed in the now expired but still readable community blog platform of the German weekly Der Freitag (print syndicate partner of The Guardian and The Observer).
